I’m lucky to live in one of the best year-round farmers market cities in the country, consistently providing seasonal farm fresh ingredients. This delicate citrus lemongrass broth was inspired by my last trip to the studio city farmers market. At the market I met up with my friend from college who is equally enthused about local produce. We spent the early afternoon of trolling the vibrant stalls finding many treasured ingredients. I stumbled upon hearty stalks of lemongrass at one small farm stand and had to have it! Growing up in Hawaii lemongrass was a common ingredient due to the large Asian culinary influence. Lemongrass is surprisingly high in iron so it’s a great herb for vegetarians who may find it difficult to get enough iron in their meat free diet. The citrus in this recipe helps reduce environmental free radicals rhat prematurely age skin. This recipe is great as a light lunch, dinner party appetizer, or as a side dish for a heartier meal.
