Healthy Restaurant Choices Your Skin Will Love

April 30, 2019

Let’s face it, loves – a poor diet is one of the biggest culprits for troubled skin. I’ll be the first to admit that when I go off the rails at a restaurant, I wake to a blemish (or two, or three!).

In this post, I’m going to share with you my tips on how to make healthy restaurant choices – because whoever said you have to suffer from a skin hangover the day after you enjoy a meal out!

Beverages

The first thing the server at a restaurant is going to ask is, “what can I get you to drink?”. It’s tempting to order a fizzy, sugary cocktail, but your best bet is simply going with lemon water. Not only does this help you avoid drinking additional calories on top of your meal, but it preps your digestive system and nourishes your skin with vitamin C.

For those who would like to enjoy a cocktail – trying opting for a glass of natural wine, a dirty gin martini, or of course my famous True Spoon Margarita!

How to order a True Spoon Margarita:

Food

When it comes to ordering food, start your meal off right by avoiding those greasy appetizers. Instead, go for a side salad to get in some of those leafy greens your skin will love.

For your main entrée, stay away from skin-busting, inflammatory-producing ingredients like sugar, vegetable oils, excess salt, dairy, and poor quality meat. I suggest opting for seafood, which most restaurants carry. The omega-3 fatty acids will help support youthful skin, as well as prevent breakouts. Some custom entree ideas include…

And finally – dessert. Your skin will be better off passing on those sugary cookies and cakes. Refined sugar causes inflammation throughout the body, which in turn breaks down the collagen and elastin found in your skin. To resist temptation, order a cup of green tea, or pack some xylitol gum.

I hope these tips help you loves make healthy restaurant choices moving forward! If you’re ever in L.A., check out a few of my top picks, Kismet and Botanica. Who knows, you might even see me there. 😉
