The True Spoon Eats: SQIRL

Oh the unassuming little spot on Virgil with the constant line, aka SQIRL. Virgil Ave. Is a far cry from the gentrified polish of Silverlake’s Sunset Blvd. but don’t let that deter you from making your way to the sweetest spot on the the street. SQIRL is a small lunch/brunch spot offering up everything from sorell pesto rice bowls to take away preserves.  The small thoughtful menu offers items that will delight vegans and meat eaters alike. The homemade brioche toast with signature seasonal (in my case quince) preserves is a must get menu item, add fresh nut butter for the ultimate experience. The “Stella” crispy rice bowl is arguably the best vegan brunch offering in all of Los Angeles. When you order the Stella add avocado to the heritage rice and preserved lemon peel, you wont be dissapointed. Chef Jessica Koslow is dedicated to offering up sustainable food, sourcing her organic ingredients as locally as possible. I love SQIRL because it’s the friendly neighborhood spot that just happens to be receiving culinary honors from the likes of Bon Appetit magazine.
