Gut health tips for glowing skin

October 1, 2019

Today I want to talk to you loves about a topic that is near and dear to my heart –– gut health. As most of you know, I’ve struggled with acne-prone skin for as long as I can remember. While maintaining a nontoxic skincare regime is essential for youthful, glowing skin –– having a healthy gut is arguably just as important.

Here’s the gist. Our guts are filled with trillions of bacteria and make up our microbiomes. These bacteria play a huge role in our skin and the overall state of our health. In order to keep our gut flourishing with healthy microbiomes, we need to feed them with prebiotic-rich foods.

My Top Prebiotic Foods

Oats – Who doesn’t love a nice, warm bowl of oatmeal? This classic grain is not only tasty, but it’s filled with prebiotic benefits your skin and gut crave. Oats contain beta-glucan fiber, which is associated with flourishing gut bacteria. Oats also offer antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, which help to protect your skin from damage caused by free radicals.

Flax – Flaxseeds are an incredible source of prebiotics. They contain 3 grams of fiber, which helps to promote healthy gut bacteria and regulate digestion. They’re also full of omega-3 fatty acids, which are linked to reducing acne and signs of premature aging.

Apples – An apple a day keeps bad gut-health away! No seriously. This delicious fruit is full of fiber and pectin, which have numerous prebiotic benefits. Pectin found in apples has been found to aid good gut flora and reduce the bad.

Start Your Day With Prebiotics

Breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day. That’s why I created a recipe that would kickstart my gut health, and in return, my skin. My Caulioats recipe contains all three of the above prebiotic foods, plus a handful of other skin-promoting ingredients.
