Why your skin needs facial oil

April 6, 2021

Do you loves want to hear something crazy?

Once upon a time, I was afraid of using facial oil in my skincare routine. I thought using oil would cause my face to be oily and lead to new breakouts! In hindsight, I couldn’t have been more wrong.

Fast forward to today, and I can’t imagine what my skin would look like without my favorite facial oil. For those of you who may have the same stigma about oils, I’m here to clear the air and explain exactly how it benefits the skin and why you should give it a chance!

Why Use a Facial Oil?

Face oil is an important step in any effective skincare routine. It acts as an occlusive barrier, meaning it forms a protective layer on the skin’s surface that locks moisture in. Without it, we wouldn’t be able to seal in essential skincare ingredients and their benefits.

But it doesn’t stop there. This safeguard also prevents dirt, toxins, and other pollutants (yes, we’re talking about you, L.A. air!) from entering the skin, which have been known for causing wrinkles, fine lines, acne, and more.

All skincare routines I recommend include an occlusive barrier, so I promise no matter what skin type you have (yes even acne prone like me) adding facial oil is beneficial for you. I also love to use it in my nightly skin supporting home practices. For example, gua sha the ancient Chinese practice that involves massaging oil into the skin with a stone. The purpose of the oil is to help the stone glide smoothly across the skin while balancing fatty acids and promoting lymphatic drainage.

Can You Use Facial Oil on Oily Skin?

Many people wonder if facial oil makes your skin oily. The answer, surprisingly, is no!

If you struggle with oily skin, then a facial oil may be exactly what your skin needs. Just because the skin is oily doesn’t mean it’s moisturized. Stripping the skin of oils will only disrupt the skin’s natural balance and produce even more oil.

Instead, by moisturizing the skin and sealing in your nourishing ingredients with an oil, the skin will rebalance itself and stop overproducing oil, which can lead to greasy skin, clogged pores, and acne.

How to Find the Right Product

Trust me when I say that finding the right oil for your face is like winning the jackpot. The problem? There are so many options on the market! My advice is to find a non-toxic facial oil that’s light, free of palm-oil, and irritating fragrances.

If there’s one oil that has met my expectations, it’s by far the botanical-based Clarity Oil by Mila. This non-comedogenic oil is designed for all skin types, including people with acne-prone and sensitive skin like me.

I absolutely love that this oil is made with clean, nourishing oils from seeds like cucumber, hemp, meadowfoam, milk thistle, and more. Plus, it smells heavenly, thanks to farm-grown extracts like violet, rosemary, and elderberry.

I’m always amazed at this oil’s ability to replenish my skin without feeling like a heavy lubricant. Instead, my skin feels fresh and looks oh so glowy! I can tell right after using it my skin feels fresh, protected, and well-balanced. Shop Mila Clarity and use code CELESTE15 – which gives 15% off for first time purchases
