Any PDX resident can recall toiling in mile long lines waiting to get a taste of the inventive creamy goodness. Monthly seasonal flavors, quality ingredients, friendly staff, and charming interiors are all factors contributing to this ice cream darlings impressive national acclaim. I personally love that Salt & Straw supports local farmers and that they are committed to providing their patrons with exciting seasonal flavors! The Portland company also caters to individuals who don’t do dairy, their vegan coconut base and seasonal sorbets are some of the best flavors on the menu. My obsession with the creamy confection began when it’s first location on Alberta St. opened three blocks from my NE Portland home. When I learned Salt & Straw was coming to Los Angeles I just about jumped for joy! I investigated the Larchmont Blvd. location and was very pleased to see that the LA shop maintains the same spirit and charm that I fell in love with in Portland. If you’re in LA go visit Patrick and the rest of the crew on Larchmont, don’t forget to try the vegan Toasted Coconut w/ Candied Macadamia Nuts.
